PASTORAL CARE
|
|
From the structure of the house tutorial system, to the much more informal access to the extended pastoral team or prefects, the framework of pastoral care ensures that at every step each pupil's development is monitored and fully supported; this is central to life in the Senior School. The diversity of support and care which the pupils have available means that they are treated as individuals, and can always find someone to discuss their questions or concerns; helping them feel secure, known and ready to engage fully in Senior academic life and the wider opportunities of co-curricular activities.
The extended pastoral team comprises of the Deputy Head Pastoral, Deputy Head Pupils, Head of Wellbeing, Heads of House, Heads of School, Head of Boarding, tutors, boarding tutors, our Medical Team and school counsellor, who together create our enabling, supportive ethos; underpinning the experience of every pupil in the Senior School.
Tutors combine pastoral care with detailed academic monitoring and so get to know the whole person. Their encouragement to their tutees to participate in a wide range of activities successfully engenders greater self-confidence and self-awareness; this is reinforced through the weekly rhythm of Shape of the Week and the breadth of co-curricular activities.
If you have a concern about your child please contact their Tutor in the first instance or the Head of House (day pupils) or Head of Boarding (boarders). For more serious issues you may wish to contact a member of the Senior Pastoral team, either the Deputy Head Wellbeing, Deputy Head Pastoral or the Chaplain.
Wellbeing is a priority for the College as a happy and confident child is much more likely to thrive; in the classroom, on the sports field, and across the wider life of the school, including co-curricular activities.
We are delighted to have a Health & Wellbeing Centre on-site, which is staffed by a large medical and counselling team. Pupils are able to access this service throughout their time at the College; ensuring they are supported to participate confidently in life in the Senior School and make the most of their Senior academic journey.
We encourage pupils and parents to communicate about any concerns before any problem becomes greater. Heads of House are responsible for pupil wellbeing in the first instance, particularly of day pupils, and Heads of Boarding Houses for the boarders. Heads of House and Boarding House are capably supported by Tutors and Heads of School. Should there be problem, we are always ready to assist and find a solution; so pupils can flourish personally and academically, and be ready to take on responsibility through opportunities such as Senior leadership and service.
