Choral and Concerto Concert: A Night of Exceptional Musical Performance

Denstone College was delighted to host an unforgettable evening of music, showcasing three talented pupil soloists alongside our choir's performance of Requiem by composer Matthew Coleridge. In a rare and exciting opportunity, Matthew himself joined us, not only to lead a workshop with our pupils and the Denstone Choral Society, but also to perform as tenor in the concert.

The Performance

The Requiem featured three beautiful pupil solos, with our choir accompanied by a professional orchestra made up of our VMT teachers and friends. The evening demonstrated the exceptional calibre of musical talent within our school community.

A Standout Evening

The Director of Music reflected on the evening with pride:
"An incredible evening of music topped off by the composer himself performing with our choirs. Three of our upper sixth musicians performed to the highest standard alongside an orchestra made up of professional musicians, the majority of whom are also our very own instrumental teachers.

Estee set the tone of the evening with the most delicate and expressive clarinet solo; Aryan blew us away with his crisp and lively flute and Jerry's musicianship in his piano concerto far surpassed a young man of his age. Just outstanding.

Denstone College Chapel Choir and the Denstone Choral Society then made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The quality of the choirs was out of this world. Every single performer felt the buzz of energy and excitement at the end of the Requiem—an unusual word to describe such a piece, but that is exactly how to describe it.

Matthew Coleridge himself said, 'you know when the performance has gone well when there is an energy in the room.' It was superb and he was impressed. There is no other Director of Music that can be quite as proud of their department."
