Denstone College hosts Derby primary school pupils

The College was delighted to welcome 60 boys and girls and their teaching staff from Silverhill Primary School last Wednesday for a military afternoon as part of the junior pupils’ history curriculum

In an event designed to give the youngsters a flavour of military life before their trip to the Somme and Ypres, Denstone’s CCF staged an afternoon of skills and demonstrations including drills, cooking in the field, weaponry and military knowledge and practice.

Supervised by CCF staff and pupils, all the ten year olds enjoyed a meaningful afternoon with the opportunity for each and every one of them to try their hand at the activities. They also visited the beautiful College Chapel, seeing for themselves the roll of honour of Denstonians who gave their lives in the wars.

Along with the Remembrance Service attended by the whole school, there is no better way of ensuring that We Will Remember Them.
