Denstone is proud of producing rugby players who are not only outstanding at the sport, but who are also well rounded young men with exceptional character traits which will serve them well throughout their lives. The College has a wonderful history of rugby and proudly displays the names of every 1stXV player dating back to 1899 along the North Wing corridor.

Boys receive expert coaching from a highly qualified group of coaching staff and also receive regular strength and conditioning to supplement their development. Playing in a very tough fixture list, the boys are encouraged to develop a growth mindset, pushing themselves to improve as people and rugby players. The College has strong links with Leicester Tigers and a very large number of current and past pupils are part of the Tigers pathway.

On leaving the College, recent OD’s have made their way to the following clubs: Ashley Elvers (Worcester Warriors), Jordan Davies (Sale Sharks and Salford City Reds), Saeed Agboke (Bath), Keifer Laxton (Nottingham), Rhys Morgan (Worcester Warriors), George Prince (Leicester Tigers) and Sam Alderson (Cambridge Blue).

This year pupils who have attained representative honours are Ben Bryan (Midlands U18), Ben White (Midlands and Leicester Tigers U16), and Ollie Glasse (Independent Schools Lambs National XV), Sam Lewis and Levi Davis who have represented Leicester Tigers U16.  The College has also had a record 13 pupils who have represented Staffordshire at U16 or U18.

The Rugby Club regularly organises a range of different trips, including a 1st XV pre season camp, an U15 pre season tour, regular trips to watch premiership or Heineken Cup matches and, the highlight of any player’s time at the school, an international tour, the next of which travels to South Africa in 2015 with three senior teams.

Scholarships are available for outstanding rugby players and if you require any further information about these, or have any enquiries about rugby please contact the Director of Rugby, Jack Moran.
