ICT is used extensively throughout Denstone College and all classrooms are well equipped with computers, interactive whiteboards or smartboards and sound facilities. On site, there are 5 IT rooms available for teaching and learning purposes along with a dedicated IT support team covering all the IT needs of the College. A trial of mobile classroom devices is also underway.
The College has a robust wireless network in place and allows pupils to connect personal devices seamlessly to the school network. An investment has been made into a 300mb fibre service to improve the network and wireless experience. Each boarding house has IT facilities including desktops and printers for completion of prep and for communicating with families. All activity on the school network is monitored by the IT team and sophisticated web filtering software is deployed to facilitate this. As a Microsoft school, all pupils of Denstone College are permitted 5 free downloads of the office 2016 suite to use for the duration of their studies along with a Denstone College email account.
IT has been an area of recent investment for Denstone College. New interactive smartboards and visualisers have been installed in the new Derbyshire Build and future plans include a site replacement programme for the installation of smartboards in the all the classrooms. Improvements to the school infrastructure have been made recently in terms of updating core equipment and introducing a new back-up solution for the College. Plans are also in place to trial further mobile devices in classrooms and introduce a digital skills and literacy programme for all pupils.
Teachers, pupils and parents of Denstone College have access to a range of IT systems, College social media sites and apps which can be found in each of the portals on the College website. Parents are provided with access to the ISAMs parent site which provides information on their son or daughter’s timetable, grades, reports, external exam results and access to interactive forms to sign up to College events. The College Calendar includes all key events for the College along with sport, fixture and team sheet information which can be personalised to the family and downloaded to devices.
