College Life: Drama

One of the best boarding schools in the UK One of the excellent Boarding Schools in England Drama at Denstone

The Drama Department at Denstone offers students a rich and challenging programme of study. Pupils in the First to Third Forms are taught the subject as part of the School's curriculum, but there are ample opportunities for those who are really keen to pursue the subject further. The Second Form plays are written, directed and produced by the Lower Sixth and are performed to packed audiences in the School Room. The Third Form play, which takes place at the end of the Lent term, provides an enriching experience for participants. All pupils have the opportunity to opt for Drama as part of the School's extensive activity programme.

Higher up the School, some students who wish to take the subject to GCSE level, are offered a well resourced and successful syllabus, where year on year the Department achieves outstanding results. Those who wish to take Drama to A Level, follow the AQA Drama and Theatre Studies course from which some students have launched a University career in Media/Drama studies.

The main School play is one of the many highlights of the Drama calendar and is held at the end of the Michaelmas term. Productions in the past have included "Our Day Out", "West Side Story", "The Visit" and "Blood Brothers". In December 2010 "Forty Years On"  and in 2011 "Grease".

Drama is a proactive Department at Denstone College and every pupil is encouraged to contribute, whether it be through acting, stage management or technical skills i.e. sound and lighting.
