Admissions: 13 Plus
There are two methods of entry to Denstone College for 3rd Form / Year 9 entry
1. 3rd Form – Age 13+ (Year 9) – Pupils from State Schools / Independent Schools which finish at Year 8 and do NOT offer Common Entrance
This level of entry is for those pupils who currently attend a state school or an Independent School that finishes at the age of 13 / Year 8. This will include pupils who currently attend state High and Middle schools and the independent schools which do not offer Common Entrance.
Entrance examinations are held in January and February prior to admission the following September. Candidates sit the examinations at the College and are examined in English, Mathematics and Science. The examinations are written by the College and are based on the National Curriculum. Candidates will also be interviewed on their exam day. A reference from the present school will be requested by the Headmaster, following registration.
Scholarships
Academic Scholarships and scholarships in Art, Drama, DT, Music, and Sport may be offered in recognition of outstanding talent and achievement. The exams and assessments will be held on a specific scholarship entrance exam date. All scholarship candidates must attend on this scholarship day. It is important for parents to consult with the Headmaster / Headmistress of their child’s present school to ascertain the suitability of their child for scholarship.
2. 3rd Form – Age 13+ (Year 9) - Pupils who are currently attending an Independent School which finish at Year 8 and offers Common Entrance
Common Entrance Examinations are held in June prior to admission the following September. Candidates sit the examinations at their present school. Examinations are sat in English, Mathematics, Science, French, Geography, History and RS. These papers are written by the Independent Schools Examination Board. A reference from the present school will be requested by the Headmaster.
Scholarships
Academic Scholarships and scholarships in Art, Drama, DT, Music, and Sport may be offered in recognition of outstanding talent and achievement. The Academic Entrance examinations under Common Entrance will be taken at the candidate's current Prep School in June. A reference from the present school will be requested by the Headmaster following registration.
